Carlton Palmer believes Leeds United might sign Lewis O’Brien in January and sell him in the summer if they win Premier League promotion.
The Nottingham Forest midfielder has recently been linked with a move to Elland Road [TEAMtalk, 30 October] to assist reinforce the club’s midfield ranks following a recent injury crisis.
Palmer spoke with Football League World on October 31 and expressed his thoughts on Leeds’ interest in O’Brien.
“The problem that they [Leeds] have obviously is he struggled to make any kind of impact in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest,” stated the former Liverpool player.
“But the priority is for Leeds to get back to the Premier League.”Given his age, Leeds United would have no trouble moving him on if they were promoted to the Premier League.
“It’s going to be a chase for Lewis O’Brien’s signature, there are a lot of clubs who are interested in his signature, but I think it would be a good solution for Leeds United given the injury crisis they have at the moment.”
Leeds United must move for Lewis O’Brien.
Leeds may have already signed Josuha Guilavogui following the injury to Ilia Gruev and Ethan Ampadu, but it appears like they could use at least one more midfielder.
The Championship season is long and arduous, and while Daniel Farke already has a solid squad, it wouldn’t hurt to acquire the former Huddersfield Town player.
The midfielder is now on loan to LAFC and will remain with the team until December. This implies that when he returns to Forest, Leeds might be in prime position to sign him.
His form in recent seasons has left a lot to be desired, but based on his prior spells in the second tier, it’s clear that he’ll be able to support the Whites’ promotion push this season.
These are simply rumours for the time being, but on paper, signing O’Brien appears to be a wise decision for the West Yorkshire outfit.
