Luke Chambers, one of Liverpool’s budding prospects, has had his loan stay at Wigan Athletic cut short after suffering a severe back injury.
The 20-year-old left-back will be sidelined for an extended length of time, which is bad news for the Latics, Reds, and England, given that Chambers was forced to miss several recent U20 international games.
When it comes to back difficulties, it’s clear that no risks can be made, and the defender’s immediate future does not appear promising.
Luke Chambers is out for “months” following a major injury.
“Luke has a back injury, and the prognosis is not good,” Wigan manager Shaun Maloney said in words acquired by Wigan Today.
“We found out yesterday [Tuesday] that he’ll be away for an extended amount of time. You won’t see him back on the field for a long while.
“[…] It won’t be weeks, but months, most likely into the next year.
“He will not need surgery, but he will return to Liverpool tomorrow [Wednesday], where they will take over his rehabilitation. The specialists will handle the situation.
It’s a huge shame for him.”
that’s possible that this situation was always in the cards for Chambers, but as Maloney highlighted, “I think there’s a bit of history behind it, over the last two or three years…” It is not a recent occurrence or an impact injury.
It’s a cruel blow, especially given that Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, a world-renowned full-back, described the child as “amazing” during a Europa League performance last season (TNT Sports).
All he can do now is work hard and hope to return to his prior level, even though it is evident that the path ahead will be long and difficult.
