Chelsea and Nottingham Forest had a major brawl during their Premier League match on Sunday afternoon, and Cole Palmer’s reaction has gone viral.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer had an unexpected reaction during a heated moment in their Premier League match with Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon, which has since gone viral on social media. Forest were reduced to ten men with 12 minutes remaining in the match as James Ward Prowse was sent off, setting the stage for a Chelsea attack.
However, near the end of the game, both teams engaged in a touchline scuffle after Forest’s Neco Williams seemed to push Marc Cucurella into Enzo Maresca. During the ruckus, fan film showed Nicolas Jackson appearing to raise his hand to Forest’s Morato.
VAR allegedly assessed the incident but determined it was not violent conduct, allowing the Chelsea player to remain on the field. Meanwhile, Palmer, the former Manchester City attacker, appeared to be the most composed player on the pitch.
In reverse camera footage circulating on social media, he can be seen witnessing the fight before deciding to sit down on the ground rather than participate.
Palmer’s decision may have been prudent, especially given the uncertainty of whether any retrospective punishments will be levied on the players engaged in the incident. Given Chelsea’s good start to the season, either Palmer or Jackson incurring a suspension would be detrimental, according to Football London.
Palmer, a key member of the club, has already scored six goals and supplied four assists in eight games. His Senegalese colleague, although playing one fewer game, has four goals and three assists this season.
