According to Football Insider, Liverpool is looking into signing a defensive midfielder and a left-sided centre-back during the January transfer window.
The two areas were objectives for the Reds this summer, but they were only able to get Federico Chiesa after reaching a permanent agreement with Juventus.
According to sources, Liverpool’s need for a defensive midfielder has become more pressing after missing out on Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi in the offseason.
Football Insider reported on Friday (13 September) that the Reds are unlikely to revive their proposal for Zubimendi, with the deal being “dead in the water”.
Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis MacAllister, and Dominic Szoboszlai appear to be Arne Slot’s favored midfield three at the moment.
Liverpool could sign defensive midfielders and center backs in January.
Meanwhile, Liverpool is looking for a new centre-back as they prepare to replace captain Virgil van Dijk, who is 33 years old.
Slot has already cast doubt on Jarell Quansah after hooking him at halftime in the season opener against Ipswich last month.
Konate has returned to the team, but both he and Van Dijk have recently suffered from injuries.
On Saturday (14 September), Liverpool lost 1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest, ending Slot’s honeymoon spell on Merseyside.
The Reds, who face AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday (17 September), have won their first three games under the Dutchman.
