Latest Liverpool news: top striker Mohamed Salah sends an update while overseas on international duty with Egypt.
Mohamed Salah appears to be enjoying international duty with Egypt following a major disclosure about his Liverpool future. Salah opened up about his future at Liverpool after shining in a 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, which brought his goal contribution total to six in only three games.
“Honestly, I had a good summer,” he told Sky Sports in an interview after his overwhelming victory. “I had a long time to stay with myself and try to think positively because, as you know, this is my final year at the club.” I simply want to enjoy it; I don’t want to think about it, but I’m free to play football; we’ll see next year.
“To be fair, I was coming to the game and said, ‘It could be my last time.'” The club has not yet contacted me, so I will play my final season and see what happens at the conclusion. The 32-year-old’s current contract, like those of colleagues Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, will expire next summer.
Salah was asked about his ambitions beyond the current season a few days before the match against United, but he claimed his attention will be on the present. “I don’t want to think about next year,” he said. “I don’t want to think about the future; instead, I say, ‘Okay, let’s enjoy the last year and see what happens.'”
“The most essential thing is to do my best every week. Just take each day as it comes and be grateful to be here.” Despite fears that he would leave for free next summer, the ECHO has spoken with a number of sources, and it is understood he is anxious to stay at Liverpool beyond this summer.
In the interim, Salah has returned to his native country for two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the first of which was against Cape Verde. Though he did not contribute in front of goal, Egypt won 3-0, with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool, scoring.
Following the triumph, Salah shared a series of images on Instagram, indicating that the Liverpool star is enjoying the September international break.
Egypt will face Botswana in another major tournament qualifier next Tuesday, before Salah returns to Merseyside for Liverpool’s home match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.
