Mo Salah’s departure from Liverpool this summer is not definite, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Egyptian raised eyebrows around the football world when he revealed that the 2024/25 season could be his last with the Merseyside giants.
However, it is understood that the Reds are expected to speak with their talismanic No.11 about the potential of extending the footballer’s contract (which expires in 2025).
“Mo Salah has been fantastic of late, but a lot has been made of that recent interview,” the CaughtOffside journalist wrote in The Daily Briefing.
“He is really delighted with the new initiative, with Arne Slot, the new directors, and the new management, but his situation is similar to that of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. These discussions will help us determine if Mo Salah and Liverpool can work together in the future or split ways.”
Pressure is increasing on Liverpool to hold discussions with Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contracts are also slated to expire next summer.
How did Mo Salah perform in 2024/25?
The former AS Roma wide player has started the season in excellent form, scoring six goals in our first three league games under Arne Slot.
The level of the opposition faced thus far may be questioned, but there is little doubt that the 32-year-old is flourishing under new leadership.
Naturally, monitoring the forward’s minutes will be critical as we approach the busiest portions of the season, a task made easier by the addition of summer signing Federico Chiesa.
The case for giving Mo Salah a new contract.
Salah is unquestionably one of the few players in world football who can be described as ‘irreplaceable’.
That is not to say we should give the Egyptian a five-year contract; rather, we would want to see some flexibility on the part of both the organization and the player.
A year extension, with the potential for another year at Anfield if both parties are happy with how things are going?
Whatever happens, one thing is certain: we must cherish every moment with our goal-scoring Pharoah, even if it is his final season on Merseyside.
