Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood sustained an injury during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Luton Town. Now, the Reds may have to go without him for a time.

Forest drew 1-1 with the Hatters in a relegation six-pointer, with Wood scoring his tenth goal of the season across all competitions. The Reds have now dropped behind Luton after being deducted four points.

Forest will now have to wait anxiously to see how Wood is. Some news in the previous day or two appears to show that the damage experienced is more than a niggle.

Forest striker Chris Wood pulls out of the New Zealand squad.

Well, the latest update does not feel like good news from a Forest standpoint. Wood is the club’s top striker, and with Taiwo Awoniyi out injured, the 32-year-old’s fitness is crucial.

According to New Zealand’s Stuff, Wood has formally withdrew from the national squad. The international captain will now miss the match against Egypt on Friday night.

It’s unclear what Wood did, but he appeared to be holding his thigh as he departed the field at Kenilworth Road. He suffered the same injury that ended his campaign last term.

Forest will have everything crossed for good news.

Strikers are in scarce supply at City Ground.
Awoniyi is back on the sidelines, and it appears that the £82,000-a-week Wood will be out of the Forest team for some time.

This would leave Divock Origi as the sole natural striker in the group. Nuno Espirito Santo, on the other hand, deployed him out wide against Luton, and he may be underestimated in the middle.

When Forest faces Crystal Palace, it may be a matter of need. With the Reds just one point under safety, they’ll want to go back above the dotted line as soon as possible to put pressure on the clubs ahead of them.

This season, Wood has played an important role for Forest. Forest can only hope that he can return to the club soon and continue to score goals for the Reds.
