Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto came in for discount prices and look ready to be sold for big gains in the future.
Some of Leeds United’s transfer activity past season can certainly be questioned.
Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, and Max Wober are all loaned out from the club, while Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra have gone permanently.
In fairness, Sinisterra was not a poor signing, but the fact that he has already been moved is disheartening. Weston McKennie, a former loanee, was likewise a terrible signing.
However, Willy Gnonto, who joined the Whites in September 2022, appears to be on track to make a significant profit.
Willy Gnonto appears destined to make Leeds United a hefty profit after getting back on track.
Gnonto, who joined as a teenager, was not anticipated to make much of an impact in his first season at Elland Road.
However, he performed a great job, scoring four goals and providing four assists in 28 competitive games last season, one of which came against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Italian should have been hoping to improve on a good debut season in West Yorkshire, but he became himself in a major transfer saga last summer, making himself unavailable for a number of games in August as he sought to leave.
Fortunately for him, this predicament was resolved, but an ankle injury sustained at Hull City, along with a lack of starts, meant he did not have the ideal start to 2023/24.
However, in 2024, he has been able to increase his goal-scoring output (goals and assists) to double figures.
He is now playing consistently and demonstrating his versatility to play as a winger as well as a more center player, which explains why he is such a highly regarded player.
With his contract not expiring until 2027 and the player costing only £3.8 million from FC Zurich, the Whites are expected to earn a significant profit on him in the future.
Crysencio Summerville has enhanced his valuation for Leeds United this season.
Summerville joined for £1.3 million from Feyenoord in 2020, and while he always appeared to be a good fit, he has pushed his game to the next level this season.
He is one player who has clearly benefited from the Whites’ relegation, since this, combined with following player departures, has allowed him to establish himself as a major player at Elland Road.
It’s no surprise that he was named Championship Player of the Year at the EFL Awards, since his performances kept Leeds in contention for automatic promotion.
With his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, you believe he may be sold this summer if the Whites are not promoted; but, if they do sell him, they could make a lot of money.
And the 22-year-old might move for more money in the future if he signs a new contract, which is likely if Leeds get promoted.
In either case, he’s sure to go for far more than the £1.3 million they paid him less than four years ago.
