Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville is expected to leave the club for £34.3 million in the summer transfer window following a superb Championship season.
Summer transfer business is worth considering for Leeds, but it’s difficult to predict what the club will seek until they know the division they’ll be playing in.
Players like Crysencio Summerville will be playing in the top division next season, whether with Leeds or elsewhere.
Journalist believes Summerville is about to depart Leeds.
Süleyman Öztürk of Voetbal International predicts Summerville will leave Leeds for a “top club” this summer.
Speaking with VI, he said:
“He is one of the best forwards in the Championship; starting next season, we will see him at a top team. He is going to transfer; there is no other option.
“I want to see him at a higher level.” He has progressed tremendously over the last six months. He is speedy and good on the outside, but he is also ranked tenth. I believe he should cost about €40 million (£34.3 million).
This week, the 49ers sent a significant Summerville transfer warning.
The 49ers will be fully aware that failure to earn promotion to the Premier League will require them to cut costs by selling important players in order to stay under FFP standards.
However, as Öztürk points out, Summerville will be a wanted man regardless of what happens, and Leeds should plan appropriately.
If Leeds are promoted, you can bet it will cost more than £34.3 million to sign Summerville, even if he makes a fuss about leaving.
What it does suggest is that Leeds might be considerably better off if they can negotiate a new contract for the Dutchman, assuring he will be worth a lot to the club in the Premier League, if that happens.
Leeds’ talented players’ resolve will be challenged in the top division, where their ceilings appear to be considerably higher than a Premier League relegation battle.
