Daniel Farke’s Leeds United are solidly in contention for the Championship crown this season, which few would have imagined after the first few games.
Leeds and Daniel Farke picked up their 11th win of 2024 with a victory over Sheffield Wednesday, giving them 34 points out of a possible 36 since the turn of the year.
Such a victory has reduced the margin between Daniel Farke’s side and Leicester City to three points, down from 17 at the start of this run.
Leeds United boasts fantastic run in 2024.
Leeds began the new year hoping to end a sequence of back-to-back defeats that had thrown doubt on their ability to stay up with the top two, Ipswich Town and Leicester.
However, 11 consecutive wins, with one setback in the form of a draw at local rivals Huddersfield Town, have put Leeds in contention for the league crown.
Beating Leicester along the road has put the cat among the pigeons for top spot, which Leeds may take with a win of two goals or more on Sunday.

The 49ers are sure to be buzzing with Farke’s effect. – Phil Hay
The Athletic’s Phil Hay has offered his thoughts on this incredible run of form in the Championship this season, stating that even the 49ers would not have expected this type of performance when interviewing the two-time league winner.
On The Square Ball podcast, Hay stated:
“In isolation this season, I don’t see how it could have been better, and for all that, you’ll recall us talking early in the season, is the game a little boring? Could it be a little more thrilling, engaging, and interesting? It is not advisable to deviate from a recipe that has proven effective on a consistent basis.
“Defensively, they’re really strong, they’re scoring the goals they need to score, and they’re doing so with flashes of class that most Championship clubs can’t match because their standards aren’t the same.
“If Farke had told the 49ers last summer that they would be in this position with nine games to go, they would not have asked him. He’s gone above and beyond what they would have expected at this stage, simply because they’ve been so good.”
Farke has been fantastic for Leeds this season.
When Farke is doing what he needs to do in the Championship, you have to put your criticism of his Premier League record aside.
We wanted a manager who could get us promoted, and we found someone who has already done so twice and is on route for a third.
Leeds have looked magnificent at both ends of the pitch up to this far, and we can only hope that Farke can keep his cool again.
