First, they must win the promotion. Leeds United are preparing a new bid to sign a “excellent” player this summer, according to a new update.

    Leeds transfer speculations

The Whites are currently in a close race for Championship promotion with Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton. Daniel Farke’s side currently has just three games left to finish in the top two, although promotion isn’t in their hands as things stand.

Despite this, it appears that those in Yorkshire are making transfer plans for the summer, with a number of targets reported, including a permanent move for loanee Joe Rodon.

Former Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi is a surprise transfer target, as is Southampton’s Che Adams. Former Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips has also been strongly connected with a return to the club, and a new update has emerged.

    Kalvin Phillips to Leeds Update

It was reported earlier this month that Leeds had contacted Phillips’ representatives about a summer move, with £30 million left aside to seal a permanent deal.

According to respected writer Sami Mokbel of The Daily Mail, Leeds are now willing to consider a loan move instead, indicating a shift in the 49ers Enterprises’ thinking. According to the latest update, the Whites must win promotion back to the Premier League before they can recruit their former midfielder, who will return to Manchester City after a loan spell at West Ham.

Phillips, who has been earning £150,000 a week since leaving Elland Road, looks poised to be on the move again, with City willing to sell. Phillips has made nine appearances at the London Stadium since January, winning only twice.

His final top-flight game for the Hammers came against Newcastle, where he came on for the final 20 minutes as West Ham led 3-1 but lost 4-3 after Phillips gave away a penalty.

Despite his difficult loan period at West Ham, Phillips has the support of David Moyes, who recently stated: “Kalvin is a human being and can do things we all do at different times.” What he needs is support, people to aid him, and we’re going to stand with him and assist him as much as possible.

He went on to say: “Kalvin Phillips is a really good player, an international player, an excellent footballer and I do believe we can still make something out of the time we’ve got left with him here.”

A return to Yorkshire for Phillips might be beneficial to all parties involved; but, they must first finish the job in the second tier in the coming weeks; otherwise, they may have no hope of luring the childhood Leeds supporter back.
