Leeds United can scratch one player off their list of prospective summer acquisitions.
The Whites have been hesitant to move for incomings during the three-week window that is currently open. Joe Rodon is the lone signing at this time.
However, this does not always imply that work is not being done behind the scenes, as 49ers Enterprises has been well-known for keeping things quiet during their first year in control.
While many areas require immediate bolstering, much of Leeds’ upcoming transfer business will be determined by who goes this summer.
Wingers are a prime example of this. Leeds have been exploring ‘extensively’ for possibilities in that area, but they are only likely to make a move if either Crysencio Summerville or Willy Gnonto leave.
An update was provided on Leeds’ interest in Couhaib Driouech.
Leeds have been connected with a handful of wingers this summer, but as previously stated, they will not go unless they lose some.
Former Preston North End loanee Liam Millar is one player who has received a lot of attention, with Leeds reportedly keeping an eye on him in the Copa America with Canada under Jesse Marsch.
Couhaib Driouech of FC Excelsior is also apparently on the list, with journalist Ben Jacobs describing him as ‘one to watch’ in the coming weeks.
However, according to a recent report from Foot Mercato, Driouech will not be moving to Elland Road this summer.
Leeds were always going to face heavy competition in the fight for Driouech, with up to ten clubs reportedly keen. PSV was one of them and appears to have won the race.
The Eredivisie champions have agreed on a cost of roughly £3.5 million, with Driouech’s desire always being a move to PSV.
What is Leeds’ position toward Summerville and Gnonto?
Leeds do find themselves in a difficult predicament when it comes to signing wide players since there is no one in their present budget who can replace either Summerville or Gnonto in the starting lineup.
However, the truth is that they will ultimately receive bids for them, and the longer it takes, the more targets like Driouech they would lose out on.
At this point, however, Leeds believe they are in an excellent position to maintain both following Archie Gray’s £40 million transfer to Tottenham.
Any trade for those two will be on Leeds’ terms, and offers will only be considered if they make it clear they want to leave. It will be interesting to see how it progresses.
