FLW’s Sheffield Wednesday fan commentator has given his opinion on the potential of a permanent Leeds United transfer this summer.
This post is part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, which features personal comments from FLW Fan Pundits on breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings, and more.
Ian Poveda joined Sheffield Wednesday on deadline day of the January transfer window.
The Leeds United player will spend the remainder of the season with the Owls as the Yorkshire club battles relegation from the Championship.
So far this season, the 24-year-old has appeared five times for Danny Rohl’s team and provided one assist (all data via Fbref).
The athlete battled for playing time with the White Sox, starting only one of his seven games this season before leaving in January.
However, his performance on Wednesday suggests that a permanent move in the summer would be beneficial for all parties.
Poveda’s permanent transfer verdict
Callum Maxted, a Sheffield Wednesday fan commentator for FLW, believes a permanent move for Poveda in the summer would be welcomed.
He believes the Leeds loanee is a Championship-caliber player based on his recent performances for the club.
“100% yes, really,” Maxted told Football League World.
“Poveda is a Championship-level player.
“I am not sure what went wrong at Leeds, but he is definitely one of our best players currently, along with [Barry] Bannan.
“I believe he is someone we could use if we want to stay in the division.
“I don’t think he’d come if we were relegated, to be honest, so he’d be a big, big, big player to sign and I think in his first games he’s shown that he has all the ability to be a top footballer.”
Sheffield Wednesday signed Poveda on loan in January, along with Ike Ugbo and Kristian Pedersen, to bolster the Championship side’s survival effort.

Rohl’s team is now ranked in the bottom three, however they are now three points from safety.
The German coach has received a lot of credit for turning things around at Hillsborough, after the team had a terrible start to the season under Xisco Munoz.
Wednesday has 12 games left to improve their league status, with only eight points separating 15th and 23rd place.
The Owls’ next match is away at Rotherham United, who are currently in 24th place, with the game scheduled for Saturday at 3pm.
Poveda’s favorable impact can help in the survival bid.
Wednesday was active in the January window, and Poveda’s presence was a significant boost to the team.
While the club did not spend lavishly, they did make good use of their resources to offer Rohl with some more strength and depth.
This might mean the difference between remaining up and falling down for the club.
It is still so tight at the bottom that supporters will believe this miraculous reversal can be completed, increasing their prospects of keeping Poveda beyond this term.
